Resident urges preservation of century-old PNC Bank façade during public comment

During the Planning Board's public comment period on Dec. 17, resident John Durovich told the board the PNC Bank building is more than a century old and urged preservation of its architectural character.
"The PNC Bank is over 100 years old," Durovich said, describing concerns about the possible loss of the building's architectural characteristics and integrity and asking whether façade elements could be reused elsewhere in South River. Mayor Peter Guindi responded that the applicant conducted walk-throughs with the Historic Society and had prepared a list of items they would like to see saved.
The exchange took place during the public comment portion of the meeting; board members did not take formal action on preservation at the Dec. 17 session. The mayor's remarks indicate the applicant and a local preservation organization have begun documenting features to retain, but no preservation condition or binding agreement was recorded in the minutes.
