Public commenters ask about Class 5 cannabis licensing and Port Plaza construction

During public comment on Nov. 12, a resident asked whether South River will consider Class 5 cannabis licenses and a Port Plaza representative said construction is expected around Dec. 2024–Jan. 2025 and suggested eliminating retail to add parking.
Two members of the public addressed the Planning Board during the Nov. 12 meeting. Resident Edwin Paredes asked whether the Borough will be considering Class 5 cannabis licenses; Mayor Peter Guindi directed him to raise that matter at an upcoming Council meeting and noted that a 2023 non-binding referendum on Class 5 licenses did not pass the ballot question.
Ronnie Zammit, representing the Port Plaza project, reported that "construction will begin end of December or January 2025" and said he supports the 55 Main Street application. He suggested the applicant consider eliminating first-floor retail to provide additional parking on the ground level. The board closed public comment and returned to board matters and adjournment.
