Ian Sheets, speaking during public comment, asked Brown County to provide assessment reports by property class to taxing entities so those bodies can make more informed decisions about mill levies.
He told commissioners the appraiser's office has provided such a spreadsheet for a fee in the past and said the county could 'set a precedent' by making templates available to cities, school districts and smaller taxing entities. "I approached you guys about a request to provide the assessment by evaluation by property class to all the different taxing entities," Sheets said, adding that once a template is built it is largely a matter of updating and printing the data for each taxing unit. Commissioners and staff discussed that the template would need to be customized by taxing entity to reflect differences such as agricultural parcels in some jurisdictions.
