Council approves fall event permits; residents ask about fire chief vetting and promote Chili Cook-Off

Councilperson James presented and the council approved event permits for the Pitman Environmental Commission’s Alcyon Park Cleanup (Nov. 9, 9 a.m.–12 p.m.) and Alcyon Lake Cleanup (Nov. 10, 10 a.m.–12 p.m.), with Robert Holwitt listed as contact. The council also approved an Epilepsy Awareness ribbons display on Broadway lampposts (Nov. 1–30) with contact Sarah Jacobs; the permit was filed without insurance.
During the public portion (opened at 8:19 p.m.), resident Kevin Austin (562 Florence Ave) asked about the criteria for candidates running for Borough Fire Chief. Mayor Razze said the Board of Fire Engineers and its vetting committee are responsible for reviewing candidates. Resident Shane Ross (100 Brookfield Ave) promoted a Chili Cook-Off on Oct. 26 from 4–6 p.m. at Pitman Church of the Nazarene, stating that "All proceeds from the event will go to Highland Chemical Engine Company for renovations to their engine room." The public portion closed at 8:33 p.m.
