A threatening phone call to the front office at Troup High School prompted staff to enact a secure lock‑in and drew a multi‑agency police response, Superintendent Jones reported at the April 13 Troup ISD Board of Trustees meeting.
"The staff immediately followed procedures for a secure lock‑in and police were on the scene within minutes," Superintendent Jones told the board, according to the meeting minutes. Officers from the Troup ISD Police Department and several area departments established a perimeter while Troup Police Department began an investigation. Parents were notified through the district's ParentSquare system.
Jones said school officials later determined the call to have been a swatting incident and that investigations were continuing. She commended campus staff and responding officers for their handling of the situation. The update was presented during the Superintendent's district report and prompted no board action at the meeting.
Board members were also reminded of district safety training and the upcoming Region 7 School Board Summit, where trustees can receive Team of Eight training credit. No further operational changes were recorded in the minutes; Superintendent Jones stated the district would provide updates to parents "as the information was available."
