The Temple Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously on May 11 to approve a $650,000 bid from Academy Musique to purchase the district-owned property at 4111 Lark Trail, commonly known as the Cater Elementary campus. The motion was made by Ronnie Gaines and seconded by Shannon Myers and passed 6-0 after the board entered specific findings supporting the sale.
In its motion the board listed three findings: that selling the property to a charter school is likely to result in long-term negative financial impact on the district through anticipated loss of student enrollment and state funding; that selling to a local nonprofit serves the public interest by preserving community trust in the district; and that selling the property to Academy Musique is in the best interest of the district. No dissenting votes were recorded.
