Council approves $48,500 change order for 8th Street project with TIB support

The City Council on Aug. 19 approved Change Order No. 1 for the 8th Street improvements project with Alba Construction. Public Works Director John Simmons told the council that the change order stems from differences between core samples used for bidding and the actual site conditions discovered during construction. The Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) has agreed to support the change, which calls for removing 8 inches of existing asphalt and deficient subgrade and replacing it with 6 inches of compacted crushed surfacing base and 2 inches of hot mix asphalt.
Councilmember Beth Hustead moved to approve the change order, seconded by Councilmember Doug Stewart; the motion passed unanimously. The change order increases the contract by roughly $48,500 and the additional work and funding support were confirmed by TIB and the city engineer in staff briefings.
