Board approves 2025 meeting calendar after debate over restoring two meetings

Trustees spent an extended portion of the Jan. 14 organizational meeting debating the proposed 2025 board calendar and whether previously removed meetings should be restored.
Board member Darla Myers argued the district should restore two meetings to keep 21 scheduled meetings, suggesting moving July meetings back to July 8 and July 22 and adding a Nov. 25 meeting. In advocating for more meetings, she said the board should maintain opportunities for oversight rather than forcing special meetings later.
An initial motion to approve the calendar as presented failed, after which the board considered an amendment to add the two meeting dates. After discussion about conflicts with school events (several members noted Nov. 25 would conflict with band, choir and athletic events and lower community participation), the board approved the calendar as amended by roll call, 5–2.
The board clerk recorded the vote and several members asked staff to provide a clear calendar summary so members understand which meetings are “on the books” and which may be canceled later due to conflicts. The board also noted policy requires at least one monthly meeting.
