Valley View ISD outlines dual-purpose summer school program for 2026

At the March 25 meeting Dr. Nancy Montemayor, assistant superintendent, presented the district's summer school program scheduled to begin May 26, 2026, with applications opening March 30.
When asked whether the program is focused on remediation or acceleration, Interim Superintendent Dr. Monica Luna responded, "Doing both." Administrators described a system in which students in remediation are identified by grades and retention risk while other students follow advancement tracks; athletics and fine arts programs will measure students at the start and end of camps and use performances or measured growth to evaluate effectiveness.
Board members asked about a transition camp for rising sixth graders; administrators said they would review the idea and the financial implications. Officials cautioned that sports‑related offerings depend on budget availability and compliance with applicable rules.
