Weimar ISD board approves 2026–27 school calendar

With a motion by Jeremy Maupin and second by Tom Strickland, the 2026-2027 School Calendar was approved as presented, by the following vote: Joni VanHouten - (absent) Tom Strickland - yes Brian Christen - (absent) Steve Williams - yes April Mikulenka - yes Jeremy Maupin - yes Jim Sanders - yes.
Board discussion referenced earlier adjustments to the current 2025–26 calendar after icy-weather closures on Jan. 26 (a missed day) and Jan. 27 (late start). Superintendent Chase Seelke told the board the district originally had 77,295 instructional minutes—1,695 minutes more than the 75,600-minute state requirement—and that revisions reduce the surplus to about 1,100 minutes, meaning the missed days will not have to be made up. The board authorized implementation of the new calendar and recorded the vote as noted above.
