Rainier sports courts finished; county chips in an extra $31,190.40, council eyes parking-lot costs

Council members reported that the Rainier sports court project has its blacktop and fencing completed and is receiving high community use. Council discussed funding reconciliation and upcoming sign installation for the courts.
A council speaker said Thurston County was able to provide an additional $31,190.40 and that staff will bill $426,647.39 of the $430,000 originally allocated for the project, leaving roughly $40,000 of parking-lot work expected to come from city funds. "So, therefore, that 70 some 80 some thousand dollars that we you guys allocated to finish the project up, we're basically going in to end up having about 40,000 on the parking lot that comes out of our pocket," a council speaker said.
The council reviewed remaining tasks that are weather-dependent, including striping, parking stops and installation of a sign reading "Rainier Sports Court" with a Mount Rainier background. Staff said they expect to complete remaining work this fall if weather allows.
