Rainier public works completes EPA lead service-line inventory, readies restroom reopenings

Public works staff told the council the city turned in its federally mandated lead-service-line inventory to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, a process that required locating service-line information to the customer's doorstep.
"We turned in our lead service line inventory, which was mandated by the, federal EPA," a public-works speaker said, adding the inventory effort had taken nearly a year. Staff also reported completing meter reads and 13 shutoffs in the current cycle and other maintenance such as pressure washing Gerke Park and installing flashing beacons by the railroad trestle.
Separately, the sheriff's office and council discussed vandalism at public restrooms. Police staff identified juveniles in the incident; the council and sheriff's staff described parental remediation and prosecutorial follow-up as part of the response. Public works said it plans to install timed electromagnetic locks and reopen restrooms once ready.
The public-works report included ongoing operational work and no new fee or budget requests tied to the inventory submission were announced.
