Council committee advances amendment to allow additional intersections for tag days; Knights express support

The administration committee recommended adding four intersections to the village's list of permitted locations for tag-day events, as part of an amendment to Chapter 12 of the village code.
Staff presented a map and said it identified four intersections recommended for addition: "That would be Palatine And Roselle, Clinton Northwest Highway, Dundee Northwest Highway, and Cunningham Hicks," staff said. Staff acknowledged that at some intersections only portions of the crossings lie within village jurisdiction and noted two locations where traffic engineering had concerns, including the area immediately outside the police station at FirstBank and Hicks. Despite those concerns, staff recommended adding the four intersections. Bernie Majorski of the Knights addressed the committee and called the package a compromise: "This is a compromise. Obviously, we didn't get everything we were looking for, but, this is a good compromise, I believe, and 1 that I think the Knights ice can live with." The committee approved placement of the ordinance on the consent agenda.
The amendment will come to the full council as part of the consent agenda; if approved, it will update the village's list of permitted tag-event intersections and staff will notify organizers about jurisdictional limits at particular corners.
