The Village of Palatine's Fire Policy and Community Information Committee and the full council approved waivers and permits for the Rotary Club of Palatine to hold its annual Oktoberfest from Sept. 16–18, 2016.
The committee approved requests that mirrored prior years: temporary waivers of the sound-amplification ordinance (specific hours for Friday–Sunday), closure of village parking lots and a portion of Slade Street, waiver of village fees and extended construction hours to allow set-up beginning at 6 a.m. Friday and teardown through midnight Sunday. Staff recommended approval, noting the funds raised by the event go back into the community, and a Rotary representative confirmed event details and availability to answer questions.
Why it matters: the event requires multiple temporary waivers that affect downtown operations and public space use; council placed the item on the consent agenda and recorded unanimous 'aye' support during the committee vote. The Liquor Commission later approved a temporary liquor license for the Rotary's Oktoberfest.
