Superintendent reports strong back-to-school turnout, $300,000 Cooper Foundation grant; new elementary leader introduced

Superintendent Dr. Tiffany Spicer opened her report by saying the district had "a fantastic first two weeks of school," noting staff and administrators spent the opening days visiting campuses and supporting routines. She told trustees the district distributed more than 1,900 backpacks at the Family Fest to connect families with campus staff and community resources.
Spicer also announced that, before the meeting, the Cooper Foundation awarded the district a $300,000 grant to support Communities In Schools (CIS) programming across schools. "We got an email from Cooper Foundation, and they were kind enough to grant us a grant for $300,000 for our CIS in every school," she said, and the district plans to publicly recognize the foundation.
Spicer introduced Dr. Tamika Brown as the district's new executive director of elementary education. Dr. Brown, who self-identified at the meeting, said she looks forward to serving the elementary schools and supporting principals. "I'm really excited to serve as the executive director of elementary schools," Dr. Brown said, adding that she intends to share successes and support school transformation across campuses.
The superintendent also announced a dedication for the new Kendrick Elementary School scheduled for Monday, Sept. 15 at 11 a.m.
