The Waco ISD board approved transferring the Alta Vista Elementary campus identification number to the newly opened Kendrick Elementary and formally renaming that campus Kendrick Elementary.
Dr. King Knowles, who presented the item, summarized the district's interactions with the Texas Education Agency. He said TEA "formally advised the district they would not approve the closure of Alta Vista Elementary campus code," but that the agency reassigned the Alta Vista campus code to Kendrick and "advised us ... that we can continue using the identification code associated with Alta Vista Elementary with the renaming of that code to Kendrick Elementary School." He explained the proposal reflected declining enrollment, bond-driven new construction, and the condition of the Alta Vista facility.
A trustee moved to transfer the Alta Vista campus code to the new Kendrick campus and rename the campus; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote (all in favor). Trustees asked clarifying questions about how the change affects accountability ratings, and staff said the reassignment affects future reporting beginning in 2026 while the current 2025 ratings remain with the original campus.
