Council committee approves no-parking restriction near culvert to reduce roadside hazard

Staff recommended and the committee approved an amendment to the village traffic code to prohibit parking on both sides of a street within a set distance of a below-street culvert to prevent accidents caused by a drop-off; the change will be forwarded on the consent agenda.
Staff explained a below-street culvert in the neighborhood creates an unexpected drop-off on the far side of the street that could lead to accidents if vehicles park there. "Because of that circumstance, staff is just suggesting a no parking prohibition on both sides of the street within a certain distance from the culvert just to make sure we don't have any, unfortunate accident," staff said.
Committee members agreed with the safety rationale and the motion to amend the Village of Palatine Code of Ordinances (Chapter 18, traffic, section 81-15) was approved for the consent agenda.
