Sandra Velasquez summarized a multilingual summer program that served middle- and high-school students and focused on cultural pride, leadership and practical language supports.
Velasquez described classroom structures and activities: culturally appropriate arts (pinatas, paper flowers), leadership games, ropes courses and guest speakers from local Hispanic business and community leaders who discussed post‑graduation pathways. She said staff provided sentence frames and opportunities for students to practice asking questions and presenting. "We're gonna be putting the paperwork to the press for a beginning of multicultural club," she told the board.
Presenters said the program emphasized getting students outside, practicing leadership and exposing them to local career and cultural resources; one planned field trip was canceled after bus access issues but staff said they will continue planning for next year.
