The Union Grove Independent School District Board of Trustees on April 13 unanimously authorized Superintendent Dr. Greg Bower to negotiate the purchase of district land following a closed-session discussion.
"Motion was made by Justin Smith and seconded by Michael Potter to approve giving the Superintendent, Dr. Greg Bower authority to negotiate the land purchase," the minutes state. The vote was recorded as unanimous among members present.
Board members moved into closed session at 6:31 p.m. under cited sections of the Texas Government Code before taking the vote. The board did not disclose details of the negotiations at the public meeting; the motion that followed closed session gave Dr. Bower express authority to proceed with negotiations on behalf of the district.
The action does not include a purchase price in the public minutes; the board recorded only that it authorized negotiation authority and that the vote was unanimous. The board listed members present at the meeting as Jody Day, Michael Potter, Kelly Chambliss, Karey Barbee, Brian Cox and Justin Smith, with member Tim Turner absent.
The superintendent may now pursue offers and engage counsel as needed under the authority approved by the trustees. The board did not set a further public deadline for reporting back on the outcome of negotiations.
