Winter Garden commission advances ordinance to create city-appointed special magistrate for code cases

City Attorney Dan Langley read Ordinance 25-08 by title and Planning Director Kelly Carson told the commission the amendment would create a City-appointed Special Magistrate able to render decisions on violations of the City Code, alcohol ordinance violations and appeals related to speed enforcement cameras. Carson said the Code Enforcement Board would remain active and staff would determine whether particular cases go to the board or the magistrate.
Mayor John Rees opened and closed the public hearing with no speakers. Commissioner Colin Sharman moved to approve Ordinance 25-08 and set a second reading and public hearing for Feb. 13, 2025; Commissioner Iliana R. Jones seconded and the motion carried unanimously 5-0. Staff recommended approval.
