A public hearing at the WEST ORANGE-COVE CISD board room on June 30 opened with Director of Finance Aaliyah Milligan outlining proposed budget changes for 2026-27. Milligan said the district was "looking at a 5.43% increase in the general operating budget, a 3.56% increase in Debt Services, and an overall increase of 5.06% in expenses," and added that "the official tax rate will not be adopted until August."
The presentation gave board members and the public a summary of the district's operating, food service and debt-service projections for the coming year. Milligan invited questions at the end of her presentation; none were asked. The hearing was a required step before the board considered adoption of the budgets later in the meeting.
