The West Rusk County Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees approved four new staff appointments and accepted three resignations after an executive session on May 18, 2026.
Matt Eastwood moved "to employ Wayne Borden as High School Assistant Principal; Ashley Hawthorne as High School Secretary; George Kirkpatrick, 2ⁿᵈ grade teacher; Maria Vela as elementary ESL aide," a motion seconded by Nathan Bishop and approved unanimously by those present. The board then voted to accept resignations from Cora Jackson, Teri Douglas and Laura Brown after a separate motion by Eastwood that Nathan Bishop seconded.
Board members did not elaborate on the reasons for the resignations during open session and the minutes record the actions only as formal approvals resulting from the executive session. The board convened in executive session at 6:27 p.m. and returned to open session at 7:05 p.m. before taking the personnel votes.
