At the Aug. 11 meeting the WESLACO ISD Board of Trustees took the following actions (selected items):
- Approved Lone Star Governance monitoring calendar for July–August (motion carried). - Approved consent agenda with three items pulled for discussion (motion carried). - Approved Hidalgo County tax adjustments for May and June 2025 (motion carried). - Approved agreement with Boys & Girls Club for four campuses for 2025–26 (motion carried; one abstention recorded earlier in discussion). - Approved updated student code of conduct for 2025–26 (motion carried). - Authorized Hurricane Fence for Westco High fencing project and ratified synthetic-turf allowance at the district stadium (motions carried). - Approved scoreboard change-order time extension and multiple track change orders/allowances (motions carried); substantial and final completion approved for three middle-school track projects; approx. $144,000 unspent allowance to be returned to district. - Approved aquatic center pool-area LED lighting upgrades (priority scope funded from fund balance). - Motion to hire Weaver for a forensic audit of 2023–24 and 2024–25 failed for lack of a second. The board instead approved creation of a board budget committee to review final budgets and make recommendations to the full board.
Several actions included requests for follow-up: the finance office will deliver finalized June unaudited financials and a reconciliation of fund-balance uses; facilities staff will provide final contract reconciliations for bond projects.
