At its Aug. 11 meeting the WESLACO ISD Board approved several facilities-related items funded through bond proceeds and fund balance.
The board authorized Hurricane Fence for the Westco High fencing project (CSP 260812) and ratified an allowance authorization for additional scope on the synthetic turf replacement at the district stadium (concrete repairs, sand-pit replacement and additional stone) drawn from contingency. Trustees asked clarifying questions about contingency use; administration said the work falls within the contract allowance.
Contractors requested extra days for the new baseball and softball scoreboard installations after engineers found existing mounting structures needed replacement; administration said the scoreboards are procured and the contractor is asking for roughly 62 additional days to complete structural work and installation. The board approved the time extension.
The board also approved track resurfacing ADA improvements at Westco East High (an allowance used and a change order of approximately $1,380 for the uncovered difference after allowance adjustments) and ratified final completion for three middle-school track bond projects, noting about $144,000 of unspent allowance would be returned to the district. Trustees discussed lane counts and equipment procurement; one middle school was built with five lanes because of site constraints.
Finally, the board approved a single-bid recommendation for LED lighting upgrades prioritizing the aquatic center pool area; administration described the pool lighting as a safety risk due to aging ballasts and fixtures and said the pool-area scope would cost roughly $265,000 and be funded from fund balance, with remaining building work to be handled in-house later.
