The board approved WESLACO ISD’s updated student code of conduct for the 2025–26 and 2026–27 school years after administration and principals reviewed changes tied to new state law.
Safety and security director Danny Reyna told trustees principals met to align the code and that updates include provisions for vaping and cell-phone use consistent with current statutes. Reyna said the code preserves principal discretion to apply discipline on a case-by-case basis and that updated language clarifies scope and procedures for suspensions and other disciplinary measures.
Trustees asked that the public receive a summary of what changed from last year to this year and for the district to post the PDF version on the website. One trustee asked specifically about discipline for PK–3 students; administration confirmed the code now includes specific disciplinary parameters that may result in suspension for early-grade incidents under certain conditions but emphasized principals retain case-by-case judgment.
The board moved and approved the code by voice vote.
