Board names Waco High weight room for Andrew Billings, praises athlete's community work

"When he broke that record, the record had been there over 20 years," the coach said, describing the scale of the accomplishment.
Presenters emphasized Billings's philanthropic work in Waco: an annual Andrew Billings Power Lift meet, a free youth football camp serving more than 300 children, a Bikes and Books program that donated more than 1,000 books to WISD students, and teacher mini-grants. Family members and local volunteers were recognized at the meeting; the board approved the naming and discussed making the sign prominent in the school.
The board also noted plans to schedule a dedication ceremony in the spring after Billings's season concludes. No financial implications for the district were discussed in detail at the meeting.
