"They awarded 2 out of 18, 19 applications, and we were number 1," Diana said, adding the award requires a local match and an acceptance by the district by a mid-December deadline. She estimated the required match at roughly $2,300,000 and said staff would pursue timber dollars and other grants rather than drawing directly on EP&O levy proceeds.
Board members discussed schedule and community concerns: several parents expressed worries about losing Little League access; staff said the planned field would be multipurpose and could accommodate multiple youth and school uses. Trustees moved to accept the grant application and directed staff to bring a plan for meeting the local match and schedule to a future meeting.
The district will confirm match sources and timeline, and noted the RCO project completion window extends into 2027–2028 depending on grant conditions.
