VAN ISD presentation: STAR and TSI results show mixed gains, achievement gaps persist

The presenter also reviewed TSI performance and college‑and‑career readiness indicators: reading TSI success was reported at 45.9% for the district versus 20.1% statewide; math TSI success was 32.4% districtwide versus 21.3% statewide. Staff emphasized the difference between STAR and TSI tests and cautioned that participation rates and differing test designs affect direct comparisons.
Trustees asked clarifying questions about subgroup performance, attendance (reported at 94.3% in one table), and teacher experience (approximately 30% of teachers in their first five years), and staff pointed to linked detailed reports in the packet for further review.
