Proposal to add six-classroom wing at Troup High School deferred pending cost estimates

At the March 2 special meeting Preston Lindsey proposed that the district pursue architectural drawings and cost estimates for a new high-school wing that would include six classrooms: a life skills room, one science classroom, a classroom for an agriculture teacher and three additional classrooms. Eric Berry of Berry and Clay was present to answer questions about design and estimates.
Lindsey asked the board to authorize the district to seek drawings and cost estimates; he noted that the room originally set aside to be renovated into a life-skills classroom could instead become a health science classroom. After a lengthy discussion, trustees said they would not make decisions at the meeting and requested more information on projected costs, impacts to the fund balance (including lost interest revenue), the possibility of a future bond, construction timelines, and the ramifications of any delay in providing additional classroom space.
