North Riverside wins $3.092 million for water-main and stormwater alley projects

Mayor Mengoni told the Village Board that the Village of North Riverside was awarded $1,092,000 in Community Project Funding—secured with assistance from Congressman Danny Davis—to replace aging water mains. He said the application was submitted in 2024 and the appropriation was included in a recent congressional funding bill.
Mengoni also reported the village’s stormwater grant request, submitted via Congressman Jesus Chuy Garcia, was approved for $2,000,000 to support green infrastructure and to complete approximately eight additional alleys on the northeast side of town to address severe flooding in that area. He added the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Development notified the village of a separate $150,000 grant to fund improvements to the Fire Station.
The awards together represent roughly $3.242 million in outside funding for infrastructure and public-safety facility work. Trustee Tricoci publicly thanked Village Administrator Sue Scarpiniti, Finance Director Ryan Lawler and department heads for their efforts in securing the grants. Next steps described in the meeting include project scoping and moving toward design and procurement as allowed by the grant conditions.
