Supervisors back request to move Graham County to Southern Arizona Resource Advisory Committee

County manager Dustin told the board the Forest Service recommended moving Graham County from the Eastern Arizona Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) to the Southern Arizona RAC so funds earmarked from secure rural schools could be used on projects in Graham County, including work on Mount Graham.
"These funds come from secure rural schools," Dustin said, explaining that the Forest Service keeps a portion of the money to fund forest-service projects and that Graham County's allocated funds had been sitting unused. He said the shift would make those funds available for local forest projects rather than being applied in Apache, Greenlee and Navajo counties.
Supervisor Mack moved to approve a letter of support requesting the transfer; another supervisor seconded and the board approved the resolution by voice vote. Supervisors described the move as largely procedural and in the county's interest to access funds for local forest work.
The board entered the resolution into the record and asked interested parties to participate in the Southern RAC as appropriate.
