City Manager Frank Martz told the Commission that the Altamonte Springs Police Department is the first agency in the 18th Judicial Circuit to deploy Axon AI and described practical uses shown in recent demonstrations.
Martz described a demonstration in which a city intern who speaks Vietnamese approached an officer and, while the intern spoke Vietnamese, “the officer used the live translation technology to translate communication in real time both ways.” He also cited a weekend incident in which an officer used the same technology to assist an individual in a parking lot.
The manager said the City’s policy framework and deployment prompted the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office and Sanford Police Department to begin adopting similar technology. He also reported the City’s Human Resources work tied to technology investments is yielding a return exceeding $6.90 for each dollar invested.
