TRPC tells Rainier council it programmed nearly $20 million in federal projects

Mark Dailiff, representing TRPC, told the Rainier City Council that the regional planning body had recently completed a December call for projects that "we grama out almost $20,000,000 in federal dollars to work locally." He said the money will support a mix of transportation, land-use and environmental planning efforts aimed at smaller jurisdictions in South County and will help make the rural community support program possible.
Dailiff said TRPC had compiled a set of rural projects that together add up to roughly $35 million and that his council has been pressing the legislature to fund investments targeted at rural main streets such as Rainier. He warned implementation will be difficult this session because the transportation budget is down substantially and noted state safety priorities have increased attention to projects that reduce vehicle speeds at city entryways.
The presentation emphasized that the federal dollars funnel through TRPC and then are distributed locally via county and municipal partners, which can delay when projects receive local funds. Dailiff told council members that some funding streams in the packet do not become available until 2027 and that the trails-maintenance funding will not start until about 2028. He offered to provide more detailed briefings to the council on specific projects and next steps.
