Quillayute Valley board approves resolution to put four‑year replacement levy on Feb. 11 ballot

The Quillayute Valley School District board voted to place a four‑year replacement educational programs and operations levy on the Feb. 11 ballot after discussing projected collections and homeowner impacts.

Administrator Diana said the district modeled a $1,500,000 collection option phased across 2026–2029 and showed examples for homeowners using assessor values. Diana warned that “if we don't pass the levy, we're out 10% of our budget,” adding the reduction would represent roughly $6 million of a $60 million budget and could force losses in teaching and classified positions. The board moved, the motion was seconded, and the measure passed by voice vote ('Aye').

Diana said the district will create clearer, public‑facing levy spreadsheets that break out the local levy dollars and Local Effort Assistance (LEA) matches to show exactly “how it touches kids,” including example line items such as diplomas, field trips and extracurricular costs. She also said communications staff would lead outreach and that community volunteers have offered to serve on an information committee.

The resolution was described as a replacement levy (not a bond) and would be collected beginning in 2026 if voters approve. Board members did not record individual roll‑call tallies in the transcript; the chair called the voice vote and announced the motion carried.
