"We had documented over 14,000 community hours and donated $62,000 in donation to help veterans," Toohey said, noting the post had been recognized at the state convention with the Guzman Cup.
Toohey told council that Post 17 has supported youth programs, scholarships and local veterans for years and that this year the post placed first among comparable posts in the state. Mayor Ransom thanked the post and said the city was proud of its veterans and their contributions to Greenville and Hunt County.
The presentation concluded with a brief photo opportunity and the council accepted the resolution of commendation. No formal council action beyond accepting the presentation was required.
