Wimberley ISD trustees review library material selection guidelines in team-building session

Dr. Rob Campbell, president of the Wimberley Independent School District Board of Trustees, presided over a team-building session on Feb. 23, 2026, during which district administration reviewed the board's library and classroom material selection guidelines and how those procedures relate to state law. Administration told trustees the session covered the policy’s purpose and scope and emphasized compliance with Senate Bill 13.

Administration summarized the selection criteria trustees use when evaluating materials, listing instructional alignment, student interests and needs, developmental appropriateness, literary or artistic merit, and accuracy of information. Staff also outlined procedures for public review of new library materials before board approval, expectations for classroom libraries, the formal challenge process, and the role of a campus challenge committee in resolving disputes. "The Board participated in a team-building session that included a review of the district's library and classroom library material selection guidelines," Administration stated in the presentation.

The presentation stressed that collection development procedures are subject to periodic review to ensure continued alignment with state law and district policy, and identified the public review and challenge procedures as the mechanism for community input and formal challenges. No formal vote on policy changes occurred during the meeting; trustees received the information as a part of the required team-building training under statute. The district convened at the WISD Administration Building and adjourned later that evening.
