Council approves sale of surplus water-department equipment; two members recuse

The McBee Town Council voted Nov. 11 to sell surplus equipment from the town’s Water Department, including a 75HP water-tank motor that council members estimated is worth under $10,000.
Councilman Robbie Liles brought the proposal and said the town could use the federal Government Sales website to dispose of unused items. Town Attorney Martin Driggers advised that the council must publish a notice before the equipment is advertised. "we would just have to put a notice out that we were putting these items up for sale," Driggers said.
Charlie Sutton moved the sale; Robbie Liles seconded. Mayor Glenn Odom and Councilman James Linton recused themselves because the matter relates to water; Councilman Ricky Peoples was absent. With Sutton and Liles voting in favor, the motion carried.
The council did not specify a sale date or reserve price; officials said the items will be listed after the required public notice is posted.
