The council approved procurement/lease of a budgeted vehicle to be used for code compliance, animal control, fire inspection and fire investigation duties. Staff said the vehicle will be outfitted with specialty equipment — lighting, radio console and chassis upgrades — to make it suitable for multiple roles.
Staff noted the budgeted monthly cost and that the total outfitting approaches what staff described as roughly $90,000. One staff member told the council, "Budget amount was actually at $2,000 a month. This is actually less than that," referencing the budget line and monthly cost expectations. Councilmembers moved and carried the authorization; staff said the vehicle will serve multiple uses and be deployed as needs arise.
Council discussed outfitting details including four-wheel drive, crew cab, and the additional costs for upfitting the chassis, and approved the purchase/lease as part of the approved budget.
