The Presidio Independent School District board recognized local artist and former PISD art teacher Ramon Deanda at its June 24 regular meeting for painting a new exterior mural at Presidio Elementary School.
Deanda received a certificate and an engraved goat figurine in appreciation for the work. He told the board the mural’s theme “connects Presidio's past, present, and future,” noting elements including “the solar car, rocketry, mountains, Lincoln's profile, Elephant Rock/Bison Rock” and a narrative that shows “two children painting their vision, transitioning into a classroom scene and an 'ancient one' telling future stories.” The recognition was presented as part of the opening agenda items when the board called the meeting to order at 6:34 p.m.
Board trustees and district staff praised the artwork during the brief presentation. The mural will remain an exterior feature of Presidio Elementary School and serve as a visual link to student programs and local landmarks.
