Dennis Volley thanked MBTA staff for stepping up in recent years and made the case that mentoring and training are essential to sustain repair capacity. "I'm not doing this alone... they really have stepped up and raised the bar in, you know, in the last couple of years," he said, pointing to staff contributions and the need to transfer knowledge to newer employees.
He argued that training, good hiring practices and adequate resources are prerequisites for continuing to move the agency forward: "If we train well, hire well, get their resources and dedicated staff, then we will, we'll continue to move the t forward for the future." Volley framed this as part of leaving the system improved and more efficient for the next generation of workers.
The remarks focused on workforce development and did not include personnel actions or specific hiring targets; Volley emphasized mentoring and passing on decades of hands‑on experience as a priority for the division going forward.
