The CRA heard a resolution to purchase property at 1651 Northwest 15th Avenue for $250,000 as part of a parcel assemblage north of Markham Elementary School.
Staff explained the lot is landlocked and not currently developable without right‑of‑way dedications; the CRA has previously accepted deeded parcels and remediated illegal dumping. Staff noted the Broward County property appraiser value was $277,040 and surrounding comparable sales and listings suggested higher square‑foot rates, making the $11/sq ft purchase price favorable. The Northwest area advisory committee had recommended the acquisition unanimously earlier in September.
Public commenters described both concern that adjacent owner homes might be affected and support from neighbors who said acquisition would reduce illegal dumping and open opportunities for affordable single‑family homes in the neighborhood. The board discussed future infrastructure needs (roads, water, sewer, fire hydrants) and the CRA’s role in assembling property and then building public infrastructure to enable private development.
