Utilities staff reported that the city treated roughly 90,000,000 gallons of wastewater in July after about 7 inches of rain and that the Rockhouse Road well returned to service earlier in the week.
"We treated 90,000,000 gallons of wastewater," the utilities director said, describing the strain of prolonged high temperatures and heavy rainfall on the system. Staff said Pina Well is planned for a full rebuild the week of Aug. 10 and that repair costs are being evaluated with insurance adjusters; one figure discussed in conversation was an estimated $247,000 in repairs under review by adjusters and an engineer.
Commissioners discussed using ARPA funds for water-distribution or sewer improvements and asked staff to explore available ARPA options. No appropriation was approved during the meeting; staff said they will pursue insurance claims, coordinate with ARPA contacts and return with further cost and funding details to the commission.
