Staff explained that county action on taxable values makes published levy figures confusing for voters and recommended listing only the statutorily required funds — transportation, bus depreciation, tuition, adult education, flex and building reserve — on the notice. A staff member summarized the district’s options and recommended preserving maximum levy authority: "We always wanna stay at our max," the staff member said, urging trustees to retain flexibility while the final budget is set in August.
Board members asked questions about the numbers shown on the budget worksheets. Staff noted the adage sheets indicate the district could levy up to $13,333 under current estimates but recommended placing up to $15,000 on the ballot to maintain flexibility pending final enrollment and taxable-value calculations. A trustee moved the motion to place the levy question on the ballot; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The resolution estimating changes for required funds for fiscal year 2027 was adopted during the same session. The district will finalize levy authority when the budget is set in August and after county assessments are posted.
