Principal outlines accreditation timeline, says state tests under way

The Scobey K-12 Schools principal told the board that the district's accreditation window "will open February 2" and that required submissions are due at the end of February.
"We only have to do 4 things that need to be submitted... It's open the 2nd and due at the end of February," the principal said, adding she planned to complete the initial paperwork in the first week of February.
The principal also reported that state tests for math and reading—referred to in the meeting as the state testing program—opened this week and run through the end of February, administered to third- through eighth-graders by Ms. Rask. She said last year was the district's first year using the tests and that "our teachers are not in love with this" because it takes additional classroom time.
On curriculum, the principal said teachers were concerned that the new science materials have been "dumbed down" and that the staff plans to supplement the current science program with older materials while they consult their representative. The board discussed delaying adoption of a new K–2 versus grades 3–6 reading curriculum for one more year while options and access to materials are explored.
