The Sapulpa Public Schools Board on July 8 approved a required modification to Policy 540.6, Student Possession of Wireless Telecommunication, to conform with SB139. The motion passed on a second reading with a recorded vote of four yeas, zero nays, and one absence.
Assistant Superintendent Johnny Bilby told the board the revised wireless device policy will be incorporated into the district’s student handbooks. Bilby said the updated handbooks for Sapulpa High School, Bartlett Academy, Sapulpa Jr. High, Sapulpa Middle, district elementary schools and virtual programs would be sent to board members once the wireless language is embedded.
The board did not alter the policy on the floor; the item was presented as the required second‑reading approval to meet statutory obligations. The recorded vote: Sarah Havenstrite—Yea; Larry Hoover—Yea; Steve McCormick—Yea; Johnny Merrell—Yea; Melinda Ryan—Absent.
