The Preston Joint School District Board approved an amendment to the district's Student Clubs policy clarifying that the superintendent or the superintendent's designee will respond to club applications on behalf of the district.
Under the amended language, the activity director — under the direction of the principal — will review each written application, evaluate policy compliance and risk-management plans, and recommend approval or denial to the superintendent. If a club is denied, suspended, or terminated, appeals may be made in writing to the board of trustees, which retains final decision authority.
Trustee Susan Yardley moved to approve the amendment and Launa Moser seconded; the motion carried unanimously (Yea:5, Nay:0). The change replaces previous language that required board approval to designate a club as sponsored, non-sponsored or non-curricular.
