Server crash delayed device rollout; internet service may be intermittent for weeks, superintendent says

Superintendent Dr. Harrison briefed trustees on technology operations at the Sept. 18 meeting, reporting that a server failure the week before school delayed deployment at the high school by roughly one week.
He said new computers have been delivered for grades 1, 2, 6, 11 and 12; new labs were established at Oakwood, the high school and the junior high; and 29 of 30 staff computer cabinets are installed. Dr. Harrison also told the board that Direct Communications had notified the district the internet service could be interrupted for the next three to four weeks, and he said the district has added IT staff recruited over the summer to help manage rollout and issues.
Trustees asked whether additional IT staff or outsourcing would be required; Dr. Harrison said the district had hired additional personnel and asked technology lead Maise to provide further detail to the board.
