Neodesha establishes Emergency Services Sales Tax Fund; authorizes payments for ambulance services

The Board of Commissioners approved Resolution No. 26-14 on June 10 to establish an Emergency Services Sales Tax Fund. The fund will segregate revenues Neodesha receives from the Wilson County one-percent countywide retailers' sales tax approved by county voters in November 2022 and earmarked for ambulance and emergency medical services. Commissioner Truelove moved to approve Resolution 26-14 as presented; Vice‑Mayor Duane Banzet seconded and the motion carried.
The resolution directs that all revenues received from Wilson County attributable to the countywide emergency services sales tax be deposited into the newly established special revenue fund and that monies therein be expended solely for ambulance services, emergency medical services, emergency services, health care services, and related purposes authorized by the ballot proposition and law. The resolution notes the City currently contracts with Labette County Medical Center d/b/a Labette Health for ambulance services and authorizes payments to that provider subject to agreement terms, availability of funds, and compliance with Kansas Cash-Basis and Budget laws.
City officials said establishing the separate fund will promote transparency and ensure compliance with the ballot proposition and state law. The minutes record no additional conditions on the fund creation; the resolution becomes effective upon approval by the governing body.
