PTA, HBTA and principals report on carnival, attendance changes, PBIS and curriculum

District and community groups reported a range of operational and program items at the March 10 meeting. The Cutten Ridgewood PTA said carnival preparations are underway, staff appreciation is planned for the first week of May and spirit-wear sales close on March 10, 2025. The PTA also said it is working toward purchasing walkie-talkies for both school sites.
The Humboldt Bay Teachers Association reported conferences began on March 10 and described changes to independent-study packet procedures to address a large number of illnesses. The Special Education Director said collaboration meetings and SSTs are improving and that preventative supports are reducing referrals. Principals reported adoption of a new spelling curriculum (including handwriting and cursive), a new social-emotional curriculum, PBIS recognition efforts, low substitute availability, CAASPP preparation, and a successful TK/K night that attracted prospective families. The superintendent also announced that "Yip" was chosen as teacher of the year and will advance to county-level recognition.
