Council accepts canvass; Tony Valdez sworn in as Place 3
Summary
The Hays City Council accepted canvass results for Place 3, seating Tony Valdez after a unanimous vote. New members were sworn in during the meeting; Lydia (mayor) was not present and will be sworn at a special meeting.
Acting Mayor Rose Porthel read the canvass resolution for Place 3 and reported that Tony Valdez received 24 votes to Kat Mertz’s six. The council moved to accept the canvass and voted unanimously to seat Valdez.
“I, Tony Valdez,” those taking the oath recited as the council administered the oath of office for Place 3. Rosemar Purple also repeated the oath for Place 2 during the same sequence. Porthel said a separate special meeting will be called to swear in Mayor Lydia, who was not present at this session.
